About

The Cairo Opera House opened entries from contestants for the upcoming edition of the Ratiba El-Hefny Arab Music and Singing Competition, 2023.

The competition will be part of the 32nd edition of the Arab Music Festival, set to be held from 20 October to 1 November. It aims to discover new talents, singers, and instrumentalists - aged 18 to 40 -  in the Arabic music repertoire.

Ratiba El-Hefny (1931-2013) was a world-renowned Egyptian Opera singer (Soprano) who performed in more than 500 opera performances.

El-Hefny taught music at the prestigious Higher Institute of Arab Music in Cairo and hosted memorable television and radio programs on music over several decades.

She chaired the newborn Cairo Opera from 1988 to 1990, overseeing the formation of new companies such as the National Arab Music Ensemble and the Cairo Opera House Children’s Choir.

In the early 1990s, she launched The Arab Music and Singing Competition.

To register for the competition, visit the Cairo Opera's website or email: dr.ratibacompetition@cairoopera.org through 1 October. Registration fees are EGP 200 for Egyptian artists and $100 for non-Egyptians.
