World Heritage Day

World Heritage Day, also known as International Day for Monuments and Sites, is observed annually on April 18th to raise awareness about the importance of cultural heritage and the efforts that are required to protect and preserve it. The day was first proposed by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in 1982 and was later approved by UNESCO in 1983.

World Heritage sites are places of significant cultural and natural importance that are protected by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). There are currently over 1,100 World Heritage sites around the world, including ancient ruins, historical cities, natural parks, and cultural landscapes.

The day serves as an opportunity for individuals and organizations to take action toward the conservation and promotion of cultural heritage sites around the world.
