The 2022 United Nations Climate
Change Conference (COP27) that Egypt will host in November will see the launch
of a number of initiatives with various parties to enhance fulfillment of
climate pledges.
This comes as part of Egypt’s
keenness that COP27 provides a chance for all parties to present their efforts
and enhance cooperation among each other, Shoukry said during a session held
within the framework of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos on Monday.
The session comes under the title:
The Road to the 27th session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 27) to the
UNFCCC: Partnerships between the public and private sectors in climate action
in the Middle East and North Africa.
During the session, Shoukry, also
president-designate of COP27, presented Egypt’s vision for COP27 in November in
Sharm El-Sheikh city, which is based on the necessity to focus on the effective
and quick implementation of climate pledges announced by various countries.
This should come in a way that
preserves the goal of keeping global temperature increase to 1.5 degrees
Celsius within reach, Shoukry noted.
This vision also includes the need
for international climate action be based on the latest scientific facts and
data regarding the phenomenon of climate change away from any politicization,
the foreign minister said.
He also highlighted the need to work
with all parties and partners concerned with climate action, including the
private sector, which plays an important role in this regard along with
governments.
