The Media Center of the Cabinet revealed that, in light of reports circulating claiming that the Ministry of Agriculture is importing shipments of meat from animals infected with diseases and selling them in markets at reduced prices, it contacted the Ministry of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, which categorically denied these claims.
The Ministry confirmed that no spoiled or infected meat shipments have entered Egypt from abroad, and that all imported meat is completely safe and suitable for human consumption. It emphasized that imported meat is subject to strict inspection and monitoring by the Ministries of Agriculture and Health, the General Organization for Export and Import Control, as well as the Food Safety Authority. It stressed that all claims circulating in this regard are merely rumors aimed at spreading fear and panic among citizens.
The Ministry explained that imported meat is supervised by veterinary authorities from the General Authority for Veterinary Services in the country of origin and is slaughtered in slaughterhouses approved by the authority. It is then packaged, frozen, and processed under veterinary supervision. Upon arrival at Egyptian ports, samples are taken by the Ministries of Agriculture and Health and the General Organization for Export and Import Control, and are analyzed separately in each entity’s laboratories. If any sample tests positive, the shipment is rejected.
