Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal, accompanied by Commander of the Military Region Major General Fahmy Abdel Raaouf and First Assistant Minister of Interior and Director of Cairo Security Directorate Major General Ashraf El-Gendy, laid a wreath at the Military Region martyr tombs in Al-Khafir area and recited Surat Al-Fatiha for their pure souls in commemoration of the 40th anniversary of Sinai Liberation Day.
Abdel Aal said that Sinai Liberation Day symbolizes dignity and pride, praising the Armed Forces' role in peace and war. He also paid tribute to their sacrifices to defend their country, uphold its name, and protect its land.
Each year on 25 April, Egypt celebrates the withdrawal of all Israeli military forces from the Sinai Peninsula in 1982, following the 1979 Egyptian-Israeli peace treaty.
