Minister of Local Development Hisham Amna received Tuesday Cairo Governor Khaled Abdel Aal at the ministry’s headquarters in the New Administrative Capital as part of the periodic meetings the minister holds with governors to follow up on the implementation of the directives of President Abel Fattah El-Sisi and Prime Minister Mustafa Madbouli concerning several files affect the lives of citizens nationwide.

At the beginning of their meeting, Amna reviewed with Abdel Aal the latest update on implementation rates of projects of Cairo governorate’s investment plan 2022/2023 at the level of local development programs with investments of 4 billion to benefit a large number of projects, on top of which is the project of upgrading roads, squares, and streets across Cairo as well as projects of bridges, electricity, security, firefighting, and environment improvement that meet the needs of Cairo’s different neighborhoods and improve the quality of citizen services.

During the meeting, Abdel Aal emphasized that the development projects’ implementation rates are progressing steadily, especially in sectors affecting citizens’ daily life to achieve sustainable development, adding that there are field teams and action committees following up on implementation rates of ongoing projects to accelerate implementation according to timelines to support infrastructure and economic development projects so that citizens could feel the change towards a better life.

For his part, Amna commended the Cairo governorate’s efforts to improve services provided to citizens and follow up on the implementation of ongoing national projects in Cairo, such as developing informal settlements.

Amna also hailed the governorate’s efforts to implement the state’s plan to eradicate informal and unsafe areas in some parts across the capital in addition to supporting residents of these areas to solve and overcome all obstacles and respond to their demands to provide them with a decent life.

On the other hand, Governor Abdel Aal said that several informal settlements were developed and others are under development as well as establishing new residential areas befitting Egyptians in the framework of the state’s plan to upgrade and rehabilitate informal settlements in the capital to create a more decent life for residents of these areas.  He added that residents of informal areas were relocated to new alternative housing projects like the Asmarat, Ahalina, Rawdet El-Sayeda, and El-Mahrousa projects.

Moreover, Minister Amna was briefed on the governorate’s efforts regarding the 21st wave of removing encroachments on state-owned land started on May 27 to June 16, 2023.

Amna also urged executive bodies to remove any new case of encroachments on agricultural and state lands and detect illegal spatial variables to take necessary legal actions against violators.

The meeting touched on the new solid waste management system, especially the services provided by Erteqaa for Integrated Services and recycling and Enviromaster for Environmental Services and recycling, including collecting waste, treating, recycling, and safe disposal of waste in Cairo’s east and west areas following the signed contracts between the governorate and the two companies.

Furthermore, Amna reviewed efforts of Cairo’s Cleaning and Beautification Authority in the south and north areas to remove waste accumulation underneath bridges and the Ring Road as well as waste infrastructure projects to improve the cleanliness level in Cairo and ensure citizens’ satisfaction with the authority’s services. 

For his part, Abdel Aal asserted that there is continuous coordination between the governorate and the new waste management companies in addition to the efforts of Cairo’s districts and the cleaning authority to remove waste and rubbish from streets, adding that the cleaning authority intensifies cleaning campaigns to keep the capital clean and restore its aesthetic appearance.

Abdel Aal also said that the governorate attaches great importance to the cleaning file, given its significant effect on citizens’ health and environment.
