The management of the upcoming, 28th edition of the Cairo
International Festival for Experimental Theatre (CIFET, 14-19 December),
announced launch of the ‘Theatre Festivals Network’ initiative.
The Network’s aim is to unite the most reputable theatre festivals
taking place in the Arab world, those that have local, Arab or international
impact.
CIFET’s president Gamal Yakout revealed that the Network
will set a clear and united agenda for the festivals taking part in the
initiative. The agenda will allow coordinating all the dates of the region’s
theatre festivals to avoid overlapping in their schedules. Moreover, the
Network will become a platform for exchange of information, performances and
training experiences.
The application to the ‘Theatre Festivals Network’ and the
criteria of participation are available at the CIFET’s official website,
besides all the official social media platforms.
The official launch of the project for festivals in the Arab
region will take place during the CIFET’s 28th edition with the presence of the
presidents of the participating festivals. The coordination with the festivals
held outside the Arab region will be coordinated in a later stage.
The 28th Cairo International Festival for Experimental
Theatre will take place between 14 and 19 December 2021.
Egypt’s minister of culture, Ines Abdel Dayem appointed
Gamal Yakout as the festival’s president and revealed the management board that
includes artistic directors Mohamed Abdelrahman El-Shafei and Saeed Kabeel.
The board is also represented by a number of the Egyptian
theatre figures: Hoda Wasfi, Abu Hassan Salam, Ayman El-Shiwi, Ahmed Megahed,
Asmaa Yehya El-Taher and Hazem Shebl.
