Egypt elected president of the Middle East Regional Committee in the World Tourism Organization
Egypt won the presidency of the Middle East Regional
Committee of the World Tourism Organization at its next session. This was
during the elections held during the 47th meeting of the committee, which is
held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
During the meeting, it was agreed that Egypt will host the
meeting of the committee in its 48th edition scheduled to be held early 2022.
Dr. Khaled El-Enany, Minister of Tourism and Antiquities,
thanked the members for electing Egypt to chair the regional committee for the
Middle East. He added that Egypt will spare no effort in coordinating with all
countries in the Middle East to resume tourism as soon as possible among the
member countries of the Commission.
The Egyptian Minister of Tourism and Antiquities invited
ministers who are members of the committee to Egypt in the 48th meeting of the
committee.
During his speech at the opening session of the 47th meeting
of the Committee, Mr. Zurab Pololikashvili, Secretary-General of the World
Tourism Organization, pointed out that his first visit outside Europe after the
travel ban was lifted and travel was resumed, was to Egypt last August. He
praised Egypt’s efforts to develop the tourism sector. He also praised the
precautionary measures and hygiene safety regulations implemented by the
Egyptian government to resume tourism.
The Secretary-General also praised the World class event
organized by Egypt, which is the Pharaohs’ Golden Parade. He expressed his
admiration for National Museum of Egyptian Civilization in Fustat, where the
mummies are now displayed.
At the end of his speech, the Secretary-General of the World
Tourism Organization invited the attendees and the whole world to visit Egypt
at the earliest opportunity and enjoy the beauty of its beaches, beautiful
landscapes and ancient civilization.
It is worth noting that the 47th meeting of the Middle East
Regional Committee witnessed an agenda full of important topics, which would
work to support the recovery of the tourism sector in the countries of the
region and future opportunities and accelerate travel and tourism flow rates to
pre-crisis levels resulting from the Coronavirus pandemic, and discuss the need
to formulate Standardized mechanisms to facilitate tourism and travel.
