A delegation from the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities
headed to the French capital to inspect La Grande Halle de La Villette (La
Villette Grand Hall), which is scheduled to host the temporary antiquities
exhibition “Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs.”
Headed by Secretary General of the Supreme Council of
Antiquities Mostafa Waziri and Assistant Minister for the Affairs of the
Minister’s Office Ahmed Obaid, the delegation aims to monitor the progress of
the work in the hall, and ensure its readiness to receive the exhibition in its
third stop after the De Young Museum in the city of San Francisco, USA.
The delegation met with the general manager of the hall, and
representatives of the organizing company, where they reviewed all the
equipment, the applied insurance and precautionary measures, and the safety and
civil protection means to ensure the safety of the artifacts and the success of
the exhibition in an optimal manner befitting its archaeological
importance.
Waziri stated that the exhibition is scheduled to launch in
Paris in April 2023, and will run for 6 months, pointing out that the La Grande
Halle de La Villette had witnessed the success of the “Tutankhamun: Treasures
of the Golden Pharaoh” exhibition, which was held from March to September 2019,
and received nearly one 1.4 million visitors, breaking the record in the
history of organizing cultural events in France.
For his part, Professor Ahmed Obaid indicated that the
exhibition "Ramses and the Gold of the Pharaohs" opened its first
station in November 2021 at the Houston Museum of Natural Sciences, then moved
to its second station at the De Young Museum in San Francisco, USA, pointing
out that the exhibition includes 181 artifacts from the Egyptian Museum in
Tahrir, dating back to the era of King Ramses II and some artifacts from the
discoveries of the Egyptian mission in the Bubasteum area in Saqqara.
The exhibition also presents a group of videos that tell the
history of King Ramses II and the war battles he led, as well as virtual visits
that take visitors on a journey through history with King Ramses II and his
rich life.
